The Ancient Art of Body Sugaring

Discover the natural magic of body sugaring hair removal! Body sugaring is a centuries-old method of hair removal that uses a simple mixture of sugar, water, and lemon juice to gently lift hair from the root. Frequently Asked Questions

  • Absolutely! You’ll just need to wear a tampon and tuck the string in as best as you can, or wear a diva cup. You may feel a little more sensitive than usual around this time, so we recommend taking an Advil before your appointment.

  • You should refrain from applying any lotions or oils the day of your appointment so that the sugar can do it’s best job. You also want to avoid exfoliating the day before, of, and after your appointment. Body sugaring has it’s own exfoliating properties and we don’t want to overwork the skin too much. If you are having your underarms sugared, refrain from using deodorant the day of your appointment

  • Your first appointment can take between 20 and 30 minutes depending on how long your hair is and if you have been waxing or shaving. Generally speaking, your maintenance appointment will last only 15 minutes or less.

  • Acne medications such as Retina-A, Renova or Accutane may cause the skin to become thinner, making it more sensitive and cause it to tear. It is recommended that you have been off of these medications (if taken orally) for at least 30 days. Please also consult with your doctor first. At that point we will do a patch test to make sure your skin doesn’t react negatively.

  • On average, about four to six weeks. Some of us grow hair faster/slower than others, and it also depends on which body part you are sugaring. In general, the more often you get sugared, the longer it will last over time with less and less hair coming back in each time. This is also what we call permanent hair reduction!

  • About a 1/4 of an inch, or the length of a grain of rice. This is about 10 - 14 days from your last shave. Everyone is different though, so when in doubt, let it grow, grow, grow! If the hairs are too short we may not be able to remove them all.

  • Yes, taking an Advil prior to your appointment may help to take the edge off. We also carry Zensa numbing cream in the shop to purchase before your appointments if needed.

  • Our sugar paste is 100% natural, making it perfectly safe during pregnancy. Just note that you may find your skin to be more sensitive due to the hormonal changes. Nüd caters to many, many pregnant clients, but when in doubt, please check in with your doctor first.

Remember to inform us of your pregnancy when you book in so we can prepare you and provide you with the best and most comfortable treatment possible.

  • We generally recommend waiting 6 (natural) to 8 (caesarean) weeks after giving birth before coming back for your next session. However, it is entirely dependent on the method of childbirth, as well as each individuals situation. When in doubt, be sure to check in with your doctor first.

Your sugarist may also advise a longer recovery time in order to avoid stressing freshly wounded skin. Come by for a consult or shoot us a text/call at 8254398415 with any other questions you may have.

  • Yes! Any skin or hair type can be sugared. It is even 100% safe during your entire pregnancy! With sugaring, only the dead skin and hair is removed – NONE of your live skin cells will be removed. Plus, we apply the sugar paste at room temperature, so it can NEVER burn you!

Made from sugar, water, and lemon juice (citric acid), our sugar paste is perfect for every skin type. It’s 100% eco-friendly, hypoallergenic and made with no nasties. Any excess sugar paste comes off gently and easily with warm water.

  • We recommend trying to get in at least 3 treatments. By this time your hair will be trained to grow at the same rate. For best results, begin booking your treatments 6 to 9 months prior to the date that you would like to see optimal results, for example a vacation; a wedding date; the summer season. If you’re short on time and only have time for 1 treatment, we recommend booking at least 48 hours before your event to be sure your skin has had time to settle on the off chance it may be a bit bugged post-treatment.

  • If you are under the age of 18, you must have a parent/guardian accompany you to your appointment and they must sign a waiver form. We do not sugar those under 12 years of age.

  • YES! We love to see your littles. We just ask that if they are busy bodies to keep them in their carriers where possible, and they are welcome to cozy up on our couch on their iPads if they are old enough to be trusted alone. We are here to support you however we can so that you can attend your appointments when childcare isn’t an option!
