Why You Should Continue Sugaring All Year Long!

With the cold winter air fast-approaching, I know a lot of us are getting cozied up in our sweaters with our PSL’s (Starbucks - take my money!). Since we’re covered up and cozy, this is a time when we tend to push pause on all of our hair removal practices. But, what if I told you there were many reasons to continue sugaring those fuzzies away all year long?

Here are some of the amazing benefits to continuing (or starting) body sugaring hair removal throughout the winter:

Gentle & Effective Exfoliation

As I love to share with all of my new clients during their first appointment - exfoliating is KEY to helping our skin to survive through these dry Alberta winters. Body sugaring paste does the same incredible job of grabbing all of those dead skin cells along the surface of the skin as a chemical exfoliant does! Minus the chance of irritation or increased sensitivity of the skin like many chemical exfoliants can have, especially for those with already sensitive skin. Add in a moisturizer to your daily routine along with regular sugaring - and you’ll be feeling silky smooth all winter (and all year) long! Just be sure to also exfoliate at home 2-3x a week to avoid ingrown hairs.

Maintains The Skin Barrier Function

Because body sugaring does such a great job of exfoliating, it also leads to the improvement of our skin barrier function. Meaning that we remove that “barrier” of dead skin cells that tend to prevent our skincare products from penetrating the skin effectively. This includes moisturizers failing to absorb properly, as well as our serums not reaching their full absorption potential, and that’s a huge waste of the highly active ingredients (and cost!) of these serums. On top of that, our makeup loves to really grab on and cling to those dead skin cells and hairs, leading to a dry, uneven or patchy look. These tough issues that tend to act worse in the winters can be reduced with regular sugaring!

Permanent Hair Reduction

Our body hair grows in 4 different stages: Anagen (growing/active), Catagen (transitioning), Telogen (resting) and Exogen (shedding). The goal of body sugaring is to remove the hairs during their Anagen or “Active” stage because the hairs are still attached to the follicle. This helps us to damage the hair follicle, leading to the hairs growing in finer and more sparse each time. The sparser and finer the hairs, the less painful it is to remove it (WINNING)! When we shave, the hairs grow in all different stages. Because of this, it can take a couple of sugaring appointments to get them all on the same track to achieve those perfectly smooth results. Now, if we are to switch back to shaving - we are losing all of that progress and starting back at square one with different stages of hair growth and a more painful sugaring experience! Another great reason to keep up with your sugaring appointments all year long.

Most importantly - you DESERVE to experience the benefits of body sugaring all year long, so why don’t you treat yourself? There’s never been a better time. No, seriously, if you haven’t already, grow those bad boys out to sugar while they’re covered in cozy sweats and sweaters and they’ll have thinned out just in time for summer! I promise you’ll be SO glad you did. <3

Your Sugar Mama,

xx
