Enter: The SugarGLOW Facial ✨

We are SO excited to share that we’ve combined facial sugaring with a FULL facial treatment to provide a comprehensive skincare experience. Here’s how the two can be combined:

  1. Facial Sugaring: The sugaring process involves the application and removal of sugar-based paste to remove unwanted facial hair from the top of the forehead to just below the chin to achieve smooth and hair-free skin. *This does not include the brows

  2. Full Facial Treatment: A full facial treatment typically includes cleansing, exfoliation, steam or hot towels, extractions (If necessary), a mask, and finishing products. This comprehensive skincare routine helps to address various skin concerns, such as dryness, congestion, uneven texture, discolouration, or dullness. It can also promote relaxation and rejuvenation.

By combining facial sugaring with a full facial treatment, you can enjoy the benefits of both procedures in a single session. The sugaring process removes unwanted facial hair, while the full facial treatment helps improve overall skin health and appearance.

What Can I Expect?

  1. Set-Up: We will start by setting you up on our massage table under our cozy new sheets, fuzzy blanket and facial headband, with the option to have our table warmer turned on should you prefer the warmth.

  2. Consultation: We will begin by discussing your skincare concerns, any specific issues you'd like to address, and any sensitivities or allergies you may have. This allows us to customize the treatment to your needs.

  3. Cleansing: We will cleanse your face using a gentle cleanser to remove any makeup, dirt, or impurities.

  4. Sugaring (Does not include brows): We will remove unwanted hair all the way from the top of the forehead to just below the chin, all while exfoliating dead skin cells, and promoting skin renewal.

  5. Warm (Not hot) towel: To gently open the pores/hair follicles.

  6. Extractions (If needed): We will remove any ingrown hairs, hairs too short for sugaring, or any blackheads or whiteheads that are ready to be removed.

  7. Cool towel: To help close hair follicles/pores and calm the skin.

  8. Hydrojelly mask + Relaxation: To cool, hydrate, soothe, brighten and unwind. This mask will sit for 10-15 minutes and we will leave the room to let you rest + recharge with the lights dimmed.

  9. Bushbalm Post-Sugaring Oil: Lastly, we will massage a gentle facial oil into your skin with ice globes to help reduce redness, nourish, hydrate and treat any dark spots present.

Who might benefit from this service?

  1. Those with unwanted excess hair growth. Excess hair growth on the face in women, a condition called hirsutism, can be caused by several factors, including:

    • Hormonal Imbalances: One of the primary causes of facial hair growth in women is hormonal imbalances, such as an increased level of androgens (male hormones) like testosterone. Conditions like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) can lead to elevated androgen levels, resulting in hirsutism.

    • Genetic Predisposition: Certain individuals may be genetically predisposed to excessive hair growth, including facial hair. Family history and genetics can play a role in determining the amount and location of hair growth.

    • Medications: Some medications can trigger hirsutism as a side effect. These may include certain corticosteroids, anabolic steroids, and medications used in hormone therapy.

    • Adrenal or Ovarian Tumors: In rare cases, tumors in the adrenal glands or ovaries can cause abnormal hormone production, leading to excessive facial hair growth.

    • Idiopathic Hirsutism: In some instances, the exact cause of excessive facial hair growth cannot be identified. This is referred to as idiopathic hirsutism, and it may be a result of a combination of genetic and hormonal factors.

  2. Those with sensitive skin. Sugaring is less likely to cause irritation, redness, or adverse reactions compared to other hair removal methods. Should your skin show any redness or irritation, our ice globe massage will reduce these effects immediately.

  3. Those with ingrown hairs. Sugaring can help reduce the occurrence of ingrown hairs, a common concern when removing facial hair. By removing hair from the root, sugaring can minimize the likelihood of hair breaking and growing back into the skin. We will also perform extractions for any stubborn hairs stuck beneath the surface needing an extra push in the right direction. With the addition of our facial treatment, your skin will be left nourished and hydrated, leading to less ingrown hairs.

  4. Individuals seeking longer lasting results. Sugaring removes hair from the root, providing longer-lasting results compared to shaving. With regular treatments, you may experience reduced hair growth over time, leading to a longer period of hair-free skin.

  5. Those with dull, dehydrated skin. Our hydro jelly masks offer several benefits for the skin. Here are some of the advantages:

    • Hydration: The gel-like texture of the mask holds water and delivers it to the skin, helping to moisturize and plump the skin cells. This can be particularly beneficial for dry or dehydrated skin.

    • Cooling and Soothing: Hydro jelly masks have a cooling effect on the skin, which can help soothe and calm irritated or sensitive skin. They can provide relief from redness, inflammation, and heat, making them suitable for individuals with sensitive, or sunburned skin, and are perfect for post-hair removal.

    • Improved Skin Texture: Hydro jelly masks can contribute to improving the overall texture of the skin. As the mask adheres to the skin, it creates a physical barrier that allows the active ingredients to penetrate deeply. This can help smooth the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and provide a more youthful complexion.

  6. Those with discolouration/hyperpigmentation. We finish your service with 1 of our 2 Bushbalm post-hair removal oils. One of which contains lemon essential oil and this particular essential oil has lightening properties. We also have a few brightening options amongst our selection of hydro jelly masks that we choose custom to your skins needs.

  7. Those looking for enhanced product absorption. By way of exfoliation from the sugar, and increasing blood circulation with an ice globe massage, we will help to bring more nutrients and oxygen to the skin cells, promoting overall skin health and enhancing the absorption of skincare products.

  8. Those looking for smoother makeup application.

    • By sloughing off the outer layer of dead skin cells, sugaring promotes a smoother surface, allowing makeup to glide on more evenly.

    • By effectively removing the hair from the root, sugaring eliminates any hair stubble or uneven texture that can interfere with makeup application.

    • As mentioned earlier, sugaring facials can enhance product absorption by exfoliating the skin and promoting better blood circulation. This improved absorption can help skincare products, such as primers and moisturizers, penetrate the skin more effectively. When the skin is properly hydrated and nourished, makeup tends to adhere better and create a smoother appearance.

Are there any contraindications?

Although body sugaring and our facial protocol are generally quite gentle, it is essential to recognize that these procedures may not be suitable for everyone due to certain contraindications so that we may prioritize the safety and well-being of our clients. Here, we outline some important factors to consider before undergoing The SugarGLOW Facial.

  1. Allergies to specific skincare products. Although we opt for gentle and calming ingredients in the products we use (such as Aloe Vera, Jojoba/Grapeseed oil and Essential Oils such as Tea Tree, Lavender and Lemon), clients must communicate any known allergies or sensitivities to their esthetician before starting the procedure. This information allows our estheticians to make informed decisions and use appropriate products that will not trigger the allergy or cause any harm to the skin.

  2. Recent Facial Surgery or Procedures. If someone has undergone recent facial surgery or procedures, such as a facelift, dermal fillers, Botox injections, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments, it is recommended to wait until the healing process is complete before opting for facial sugaring or facial treatments. The skin's sensitivity and potential inflammation following such procedures may be aggravated by further manipulation, potentially leading to complications or an undesirable outcome.

  3. Skin Infections or Open Wounds. Facial sugaring and treatments should be avoided if there are any active skin infections present, such as cold sores, cystic acne, or any open wounds on the face. These conditions can increase the risk of spreading bacteria or irritants, leading to further complications or discomfort. It is advisable to postpone the treatment until the area has healed completely.

  4. Sunburned or irritated skin. Clients with sunburned or irritated skin should avoid facial sugaring and treatments. The skin's barrier function is compromised in these conditions, making it more susceptible to additional irritation and damage. It is crucial to allow the skin to heal and recover before subjecting it to any further procedures.

  5. Pregnancy. During pregnancy, hormonal changes can have a profound impact on the skin, making it more sensitive and prone to reactions. While there is limited evidence suggesting that facial sugaring or treatments may cause harm during pregnancy, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before proceeding. They can provide personalized advice based on the individual's medical history and current pregnancy condition.

  6. Medications or Medical Conditions. Clients who are taking medications such as Accutane or undergoing chemotherapy should avoid these procedures due to the increased sensitivity and fragility of the skin. To avoid potentially adverse reactions or complications, it is vital to inform us about any prescribed or over-the-counter medications being used prior to the treatment. They can then determine whether the treatment is suitable based on the specific medication and its potential interaction with the skin. Additionally, individuals with uncontrolled diabetes, blood clotting disorders, or immune deficiencies may also be at higher risk for complications and should consult with their healthcare provider before proceeding.

  7. Certain skin conditions. Individuals with specific skin conditions may not be suitable candidates for facial sugaring or treatments. Conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, active acne, or rosacea can be sensitive and easily aggravated. Treating these areas may cause increased inflammation, pain, or even worsen the condition. It is recommended to consult a dermatologist or skincare professional before proceeding with any facial treatments.

As responsible skincare professionals, our top priority is our clients safety. We will take every necessary precaution to ensure your well-being throughout your entire skincare journey.
